RAINING WEDDING DAY

Rain on your wedding day

As a wedding photographer, I have seen my fair share of rainy wedding days. While it may not be what you had hoped for, rain doesn't have to ruin your wedding day. In fact, it can add a romantic and unique touch to your special day.

Being one of those people who was definitely not meant to be born in the UK! I'm always of the mind that couples potentially looking marry in the autumn and winter months here will be expecting a high possibility of rain on their wedding day.

Here are some tips and advice on what to do if it rains on your wedding day.

Embrace it!

First and foremost, embrace the rain! This is your special day, and rain shouldn't dampen your spirits. See the rain as an opportunity to make your wedding day even more memorable. Think of it as a chance to get creative and try out some unique and romantic shots with your photographer. My advice to my couples is to always go for it. You wont get an opportunity to photo's again on your wedding day. Yes your dress will get dirty your hair may need a quick style after, but at the end of the day - it's not the end of the world.

Be Prepared

Of course, you should still prepare for the rain. Check the forecast ahead of time ( but dot dwell on it, you wont be taking a rain check! ) the forecast can change even on the morning of the wedding! It's very unlikely anyone would cancel their wedding for the rain but it's good to be prepared. If you're planning an outdoor ceremony or reception, make sure you have an indoor backup option available. Most of the time wedding venues will have this sorted but it's defiantly something you should discuss with your wedding coordinator.

You should also consider investing in some umbrellas, I wouldn't recommend clear ones. To be honest I suppose it's a personal thing but they just look a bit rubbish. Some good decent umbrellas will do the job. Those clear ones can be come broken very quickly as well! If you're all about the outdoors vibe, bring some wellies, bring a coat! Make sure that you also have a bunch of stuff that if needs be you can use to freshen up.

Adjust Your Timeline

If it's raining on your wedding day, many venues ( not all of them ) will help you adjust your timeline on the day so that photographs can be taken when it's not so damp outside. Speak to your venue about it. Let them know your concerns. A good tip here especially for shots like confetti, ask your venue if you can do it inside as you both walk back down the aisle. This buys you some more time as well because, so we have fingers crossed for outside group shots.

Be Flexible

Be open to changing your plans on the fly, or taking some of your photos indoors or under cover. You may also need to adjust your ceremony or reception setup to accommodate the weather. It maybe that the ceremony room is being changed around for your wedding breakfast, at some smaller venues this happens, its worth speaking to your wedding coordinator to see if there is any time before hand to use the space for group shots.

Stay Positive

Finally, and probably the theme of this whole blog post. it's essential to stay positive and keep a sense of humour, on the whole grand scheme of things, rain on wedding day's are a thing! The Uk weather can be unpredictable, and sometimes things don't go according to plan. But try to keep things in perspective and remember that your wedding day is about celebrating your love and commitment to each other. If you had all those people from your life with you, altogether at any other time in your life - you'd want to make the most of it! A little rain won't change things too much.
